Choosing a Dog Run | Terms and Conditions | Our 10 Year Guarantee
Points to consider
• Size of dog.
• How long will your dog be spending in your run.
• Position of dog run: consider shelter from sun, wind and rain.
Although we have not found any official guidelines for minimum or recommended space required, based on experience and advice from private owners and breeders we recommend the following sizes.
| Frequency of Use | Dog Size | Size of Run | Size of Kennel |
| Occasional use only e.g. to sleep in overnight or for short periods of time during the day |
Small (e.g. Terrier) |
4x4ft | 3x2ft |
| Medium (e.g. Labarador) |
4x6ft | 3x3ft | |
| Large (e.g. German Shepherd) |
4x8ft | 4x3ft | |
| Daytime If you need to keep your dog in a run during the day, for instance when you are at work. |
Small | 4x6ft | 3x2ft |
| Medium | 6x8ft | 3x3ft | |
| Large | 8x8ft | 4x4 ft | |
| Frequent Use If your dog is to spent most of the day and all night in a run. |
Small | 6x6ft | 3x2ft |
| Medium | 8x8ft | 3x3ft | |
| Large | 10x10ft | 4x4ft |
If your dog is spending long periods in a run sheltering from the wind and rain is a must, we provide two options, one is to have a roof over your run ours are made from corrugated plastic sheets over a galvanised steel frame, the other option is to have a 5x4x6ft high dog shed which shelters your dog whilst giving him room to move around, obviously a combination of the two would be the best option.
Another crucial point to consider in deciding on the position of your run is the sun, if shelter is limited we can also provide a heavy duty plastic sheet with eyelets and hooks, this sheet can be manufacture to fit any size panel and can be move around the run as required, as well as a sun screen it can be used as a wind break and can be hooked over the top of a small/medium size run to protect from a summer shower (not recommended for all year round use as a rain cover).
